Haunted Hollow 2023: Haywire Host

Hi! I'm going through Haunted Hollow 2023: Haywire Host and I could use a little hint Smiley Happy

Once I SSH to ShyBot, I can indeed see there shell is pretty limited. The instructions say to execute the following command /opt/interact-host. However, it produces no output, just immediately returns.

I explored the filesystem a bit but could not find the Python interpreter mentioned in /opt/venv

Giving the value of an env variable (from the last line of .profile) to the /opt/interact-host (as an argument) also does not produce any output.

There's probably something I overlooked - could anybody suggest some next step forward? Thanks in advance!

  • I've contacted the support team and they fixed the lab.

I was able to complete it when ShyBot started responding.

  • Hi @er2er,
I have reattempted the exercise from last time I did it (bit of time ago) and from what i can remember it seems like the exercise may be broken.
I am going to try look back if i had took any notes from before and will reply back if any progress.
Sorry this isn't the answer you may be looking for.

Thank you for taking your time to re-attempt the exercise!

Please do let me know if you find anything in your notes!

  • @er2er Thank you for getting the lab fixed, I hadn't got frustrated enough to ask the question yet and just gave up to come back to it later... It's now later and all complete now!

Glad that unblocked you as well Smiley Happy

I'm now going next labs in that challenge and I'm currently on "Mirror Mayhem". That lab seems to work fine, but I just run out of ideas and I'm waiting for some spark of creativity to find a way to execute something on the target server.
