Active Directory Basics: Demonstrate Your Skills

Hello,

I'm a little confused as to Q10 of this lab and sincerely hope I wasn't the only one until somebody figured it out?

As with the question, I have gone into Server Manager and followed the instructions by adding COMP-HYDRA to the domain but getting the error message below?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dark_Knight666 That is the correct Domain! After you hit OK it should ask for the Credentials then say welcome to the ad.techcompany.local domain.

Maybe it needs the DNS server added. I used the COMP-HYDRA tab. Try going to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Connections: Ethernet

In the Ethernet Status window, click the Properties button. In this window, locate the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option. Select it and click on the Properties button.

In the IPv4 Properties window, select Use the following DNS server addresses.

Enter the IP address of the Domain Controller in the Preferred DNS server field, and click the OK button to close the window, saving the changes.

After updating the DNS, you're ready to update the domain of the machine.
I also used the COMP-HYDRA tab for this step and I accessed it this way:
Open File Explorer, right-click This PC, and select Properties.

In the System Properties window, click the Change settings hyperlink in the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings section. (Bottom Right of window).

Click the Change button to rename this computer or change its domain or workgroup.

Hey Dark_Knight666 if you go to the DC tab > Server Manager > Local Server. It will give you the proper Domain to enter for this COMP-HYDRA computer. ;)

    • DG - Thank you for helping. But where is the DC tab? It appears I need to go into the Domain Controller before accessing Server Manager?

Dark_Knight666 My apologies, you are in the tab labeled DC (In the top Tab selections)

Take a look at Local Server (from that left hand column inside Server Manager)

It will show the full Domain name to enter. It wont be COMP-HYDRA. It will be something.local

        You're very close!

  • DG - Hello again, but I'm totally confused now :-(

So for my own understanding I will break down what I understand to be the case.

I need to add the host - COMP-HYDRA - to the domain. So I need to find the domain in question. So what I have done is go into the DC tab, and found the domain name below for the DC.

So when I go back into the COMP-HYDRA tab, and add this domain name I get the error message as below.

Am I going in the wrong direction now?

  • Really not having much luck with this lab. It appears that when I now move the computer - COMP-HYDRA which is now part of the domain to Branch Office, as directed in the question I get the error message as below.
