Welcome to Day 6 of the Community Cyber Countdown!
Every day in December, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite content of 2025. For day six, Gareth Lockwood, Principal Cyber Security Engineer, shares a popular lab collection that puts your pattern recognition (and geography!) skills to the test.
TerraPoint: Ep.1 – Landmarks and Symbols
This lab introduces the TerraPoint platform through a practical geolocation challenge, where you’ll identify clues in realistic 360° environments.
You’ll strengthen your observation, pattern recognition, and reasoning skills by analyzing natural and urban scenes and interpreting cultural and environmental indicators, then test your accuracy with TerraPoint’s interactive map and real-time feedback.
Why this lab?
The first TerraPoint lab is an excellent entry point for building visual analysis skills that map directly to investigative work in cybersecurity. It provides an accessible challenge, while still pushing learners to extract meaning from subtle geographic and cultural details.
Its short format and immediate feedback make it an effective, low-barrier way to strengthen analytical thinking, particularly for users who want to improve their ability to interpret real-world environments under time pressure. It sets a strong foundation for later, more complex TerraPoint scenarios.
I recommend this lab because it demonstrates how small visual details can be transformed into actionable intelligence. The blend of realistic 360° scenes and interactive location validation makes it an engaging way to practice core OSINT-style reasoning without requiring prior expertise.
Think you can identify locations around the world, based on a handful of visual clues? Get started now: TerraPoint: Ep.1 – Landmarks and Symbols.
