Welcome to Day 3 of the Community Cyber Countdown!
Every day in December, we’re taking a look at some of our favorite content of 2025.
For the third day, ClemCraven, Director of Cyber Resilience Team Services, explains the premise of one of the most popular Crisis Sims of the year.
Flip Reversal: The 360 Crisis Experience
Flip Reversal was a Crisis Simulation webinar that we conducted in June 2025. It took a slightly different format than usual, with the focus being on how a behind-the-scenes crisis incident team would handle a fictitious crisis.
We often assume that teams will address whatever situation arises and will have the correct answers. However, it's crucial to recognise that decisions made in the heat of the moment can have long-lasting consequences.
The goal is to move away from making decisions based on intuition and instead base them on data and experiences. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. All too often, teams make hasty decisions.
In this scenario, the team was urgently trying to figure out what had happened while facing the dilemma of whether to pay a ransom or not.
What will the regulator think? What will the customers ultimately think? Would they still have a business after this? What will the PR and media fallout be?
There are multiple decisions to make, and only a short window to navigate the crisis at hand. The audience could witness the team dealing with this live and also make their own decisions on how they would have handled it.
The bottom line
Teams improve when they practice for such eventualities, rather than rush into major decisions without the necessary experience. This is a significant risk to take, with potentially massive ramifications if they get it wrong.
